Novi Vinodolski is a town located in Kvarner Riviera of the Adriatic Coast between Crikvenica  to its north-west and Senj to its south-east. The town faces the island of Krk, which is located to its south-west. In the center of the town, there is Frankopan Kastel (XIII century) with corner towers and internal courtyard. In 1288. famous Glagolitic "Vinodol Code" was adopted in the kastel. The "Vinodol Code" is a significant historical document of Croatian  case law. Above the port there are the remains of Pauline monastery. In the town museum, in addition to archaeological and historical-cultural, there is also a collection of Vinodol costumes. Novi Vinodolski  is birth place of Croatian poet Ivan Mažuranić.

The tourist town of NOVI VINODOLSKI developed and grew along the seashore in the central part of the northern Croatian coast, on the Riviera of Novi Vinodolski from the ancient Frankopans´ fortress NOVI GRAD.

 In history, Novi Vinodolski affirmed itself as political and cultural centre of the Principality of Vinodol ("Vinodol" - "Vallis vinearia") and with "The Vinodol Code" in 1288. It was the craddle of a pleiad of writers of the family Mazuranic. In 1878, thanks to the evergreen vegetation and mild Mediterranean climate, clean sea and air it gained the position, after Opatija, of being tourist pioneer of the seaside region. The physiognomy of the town is characterized by the littoral architecture of white facades and red roofs which raise themselves in the old town core from the sea level up to the church and tower on the hill overtopping thus the town outline like they were protecting this stone town above the sea. For this specific panorama Novi Vinodolski was recognizable in the past, it is recognizable in the present and probably it will be in the tourist future.

 Novi Vinodolski and the surrounding area are rich in cultural monuments dating back to the ancient history. Unfortunately, as the area was the center of the Venetian attacks from the west and the Turkish invasion from the east, it managed to preserve only a fraction of these attributes to its past days of fame.

Geografic position of Novi Vinodolski enables visitors to make excursions to nearby and more distant surrounding, either by land or by the sea.

The old traditional winter customs in Novi Vinodolski are the so called Carnival (Mesopusni) customs. These events take place on the town streets and squares, usually at the end of February and sometimes in the beginning of March. Their location is never planned, but is decided through the word of mouth.

In July of every year the Town Tourist Society organizes its promotional and entertainment mega-project. It is the Summer Carnival (Ljetni karneval), attended by people from many European countries, and gaining international reputation.

The unique geographical location of Novljanska Riviera puts it in the vicinity of many areas ideal for daily field trips. These historical and medieval towns include: Vinodol, Drivenik, Grizane, Bribir, Ledenice and Tribalj, well known for its fresh water lake. Other places include wooded areas such as Breza and Krmpota and the Bribir picnic spots of Lukovo and Masevo.

Tourist agencies organize filed trips by bus to the exceptional Postojna cave in the neighbouring Slovenia, and to Lipica which is famous for raising and breeding the Lipicanac horses. The wooded areas of Gorski Kotar and picnic spots on the Bjelolasica Mountain and the Plitvice Lakes are not only beautiful natural phenomena, but also popular spots for visitors.
