Exactly where the Julian Alps in Ljubljana basin decreases, is at the foot of the hill over a thousand years old settlement Škofja Loka. Archaeological discoveries show that there was already populated area in the Copper Age. During the great migration of peoples, the Slavs settled here, the names of the Slavic settlements were prior to the issue of the bishops of Freising. Natural terrace above the confluence Poljanska and Selška Sora and hilly Lubnik enabled the construction of magnificent medieval castle, unter which heave the city, surrounded by a fortified wall. For greater security, was in 1318 the city secured with walls, which had five city doors. On Krancelj, just above Loka Castle, was 12 th century tower, by the earthquake 26th March 1511 fell to the ground. The tower was in ruins, from the radicals, the Loka castle was built.
